The Bahamas Kidney Association donates 300 goodies

Nassau, February 24th, 2023 - 1 in 10 people worldwide are living with kidney disease and 1 in 3 people in the general population is at increased risk of CKD (2017, Global Kidney Health Atlas.). It’s a startling statistic that also hits close to home. Kidney awareness month is a way to bring awareness to kidney disease and educate the public on preventative measures. The Bahamas Kidney Association (BKA) is rolling out its events for Kidney Awareness Month.

Every Friday in the month of March the association is encouraging people to wear green to bring awareness to the disease. A Fun, Run & Walk is planned for March 18th beginning at 6 am. The Fun Run & Walk is at a cost of $20 for adults and $10 for students and will begin at Goodman’s Bay.

The BKA team will be worshiping at Grace Community Church on March 5th at 11 am. Patients and community members are welcome to attend.

An essay and video competition will take place during the month of March. High school students are encouraged to either write a 1,200-word essay or produce a 90-120 second TikTok video on the topic “Kidney Health In The Future: Challenges & Possibilities”. All submissions must be in by March 31st. The top prize is a laptop and other prizes include smartphones and watches.

Sponsors like the Cleveland Clinic, Oak Tree Medical, Colina, Family Guardian, and the Walk-In Medical Clinic have all partnered with the BKA to realize the goal of national kidney disease awareness.
