The Bahamas Kidney Association Continues Fight Beyond Month of Advocacy
Nassau, Bahamas – [May 27th, 2024] Following a successful Kidney Awareness Month in March, the Bahamas Kidney Association (BKA) remains committed to supporting individuals affected by Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) through its Medication Assistance Program.
The Medication Assistance Program plays a crucial role in providing much-needed medication to CKD patients, ensuring they have access to essential treatments for their condition. The BKA is thrilled to announce Nassau Agencies Ltd as a new partner in this program, providing 2 cases of Nepro per month toward the medical assistance program, one case of vanilla, and one case of mixed berry.
Nassau Agencies Ltd came at a crucial juncture in this program. Their contribution will include a donation from another brand each month, such as vitamins from Fast n' Up/Nature's Bounty, disinfectant spray/hand sanitizers from Beep, as well as self-care items from any of their many over-the-counter lines. These donations will further support CKD patients. This also enhances the services provided by the BKA's Medication Assistance Program.
Ms. Tamika Roberts, President of the Bahamas Kidney Association, expressed her appreciation, stating, "As we continue our fight against CKD, we are immensely grateful for the support of our partners, volunteers, and the community at large. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of CKD patients and working towards a healthier future for all."
Reflecting on a month of dedicated advocacy efforts, the BKA is pleased with the successful execution of various events throughout March. Notable highlights include:
- Engagement with Her Excellency Cynthia A. Pratt: The BKA had the honor of paying a courtesy call on Her Excellency Cynthia A. Pratt, the Governor General of the Bahamas, who spoke passionately about the importance of increased education on CKD preventative measures. With rising numbers of CKD cases in the country, her support adds significant momentum to the BKA's mission.
- Outreach to Political, Civic, and Religious Groups: The BKA engaged with political and civic groups, including the Free National Movement (FNM), St. Hildas Lodge, Rotary Club Sunrise, and various churches, to raise awareness about preventative measures for CKD. Additionally, the BKA participated in numerous radio talk shows to reach a wider audience with this crucial message. The association was also proud to partner with Doctors Hospital for a cooking demo, providing valuable dietary guidance for CKD patients.
The BKA’s work could not be as impactful without generous sponsors. Our March activities were sponsored by Colina, Cleveland Clinic, Sun Oil Ltd, Family Guardian, RBC Palmdale Branch, Sunshine Insurance, Ma Bey Dem Imports, St. Hilda's Chapter No. 1, RF Bank & Trust, the New Providence Ecology Park, C.I. Gibson Senior High School, Impressive Cuts, Zion South Beach Baptist Church, and Adventist Health Professions Association. Your contributions have been instrumental in advancing the BKA's mission of raising awareness, providing support, and advocating for improved kidney health in The Bahamas. We thank you greatly for your assistance.
